6 EASY WAYS TO KEEP FIT ON VACATION

If you are within my close circle, you know that I am a workout fanatic. I workout whenever I can, even when I am on exotic vacations. I am one of those people that considers whether a hotel has a gym or not before I decide to book the hotel or not. The reality is that this ideal situation isn’t always the case and one has to find creative ways to workout when on holiday. Here I am with my time-tested and trusted ways to stay fit and on the #PepperDemGang crew:

(1) ASK FOR FREE GUEST PASSES

Many gyms give free guest passes to prospective members with the hope of convincing them to join on full membership. Some guests passes last a day, others 3 days, some a week. Request a free guest pass and if you need access to the gym after it expires, ask to meet with the manager of a gym to negotiate good terms for the rest of your stay. Managers have the power to give you what YOU want so use your negotiation powers here.

(2) TRAVEL WITH LIGHT DUMBBELLS

Travel with 2kg dumbbells. People underestimate the kind of workout you can get within the walls of your hotel room or any room. With the advent of YouTube, there are many effective workouts one can do in a small space. The tip here is to download such workouts unto an external hard drive in preparation of your trip. Here is one of my favourite 30 min light dumbbell workout.

(3) EXPLORE THE AREA BY FOOT

A great way to stay fit is to avoid using transportation (where possible) and walk as much as possible. From avoiding lifts to exploring sites by foot, it all add ups #EveryCalorieCounts

(4) EAT BRUNCH (NOT BREAKFAST & LUNCH)

During holidays, we tend to sleep in more often and a great way to reduce one’s calorie intake is to eat one meal for breakfast and lunch rather than two. Try to eat around 12pm.

(5) BOOK ONLY HOTELS WITH GYM FACILITIES

If you can afford it, it is certainly useful to book a hotel with a gym. As most hotel gyms are operational 24 hours a day, you can workout anytime you want from the comfort of the same building. I am one of those people that work out at 4am when lodging in a hotel (If I can’t sleep, I might as well put that time to good use).

(6) ALWAYS AVOID THE BREAD BASKET AT MEALS

We tend to indulge at restaurants more often when on vacation and most meals tend to be preceded by the bread basket. Simply tell the waiter in advance that you do not want their complimentary bread. This will help prevent any temptation (and unnecessary calories).
