Nigeria Coronavirus: Nigeria Bans travelers from 13 countries

Nigeria has finally decided to join the bandwagon (some might say, a little too late) and restrict entry into the country for travelers from 13 countries (China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, the United States, Norway, UK, Netherlands and Switzerland).

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Travelers from these countries may not be allowed entry into Nigeria. The countries mentioned are those with more than 1,000 cases of Coronavirus.

WHEN WILL THE RESTRICTION TAKE PLACE?

The restriction will take effect starting on March 20 and will be in place until further notice.

WILL AIRLINES STILL BE ALLOWED TO LAND IN NIGERIA?

A few of my followers mentioned that they are stuck in Switzerland as their flight to Lagos have now been cancelled. Rwandair will temporarily stop all flights for 30 days starting from the 21st of March to 20th of April 2020. Cape Verde Airlines suspended all travel for 30 days from the 18th of March.

Nigerian Court Orders Seizure Of Emirates 777 over N8million debt | Sassy Funke

A Federal High Court in Lagos, Nigeria on Monday has ordered the seizure of an aircraft belonging to Emirates Airline over an N8M judgment

The order followed a motion filed by Charles Mekwunye seeking the enforcement of a Supreme Court judgment in a suit between Promise Mekwunye and the airline.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Based on my google search, Mekwunye, who was then a student of North Texas University, Denton, Texas, United States, had in 2008 dragged the airline to court for refusal of her two-way flight ticket from Dallas to Nigeria and back for no reason and for also refusing to fully refund the cost of the American Airline ticket she bought for her return trip to Nigeria.

She claimed that the airline offered no reason for its action, leaving her stranded for days at the airport until she was able to secure a more expensive flight ticket on a longer route to Lagos.

She asked the airline to pay costs and damages but this has turned into a long extended battle which seems to have come to an interesting point.

WHAT NEXT?

Will Emirates cancel its flights and suspend flying to Nigeria over ~$22,500? I know Emirates has been growing its market share in Nigeria (and its Lagos to Dubai route is one they have been investing in significantly over the years) and they wouldn’t necessarily want to rock the boat? Will Nigeria actually seize an Emirates plane?????

Or will Emirates appeal this decision based on principle….
